This work is a commissioned sculpture, the lifesize of which was placed on the campus of Girls Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. My intention was to portray a soul in transition... one that still exhibits playfulness and innocence but is developing strength, confidence, purpose and a dream of her future.  She is two spirits and feels the pull of both.  One spirit wants to remain as a child where she feels safe and free while she spins on her toes, barefoot in the grass.  The other spirit yearns to explore, to touch a bit of fear but conquer and to stand tall and steady in the turbulence of the world through which she walks.  It won't be until years beyond the age depicted in this sculpture that she will discover one spirit need not yield to the other.  With her childlike heart and youthful exuberance she will still be a force the world must recognize and she will lead others up the slopes she climbs.
