Elliott is a friend of mine and his parents are my heroes. Despite the knowledge of prenatal problems and a dark prognosis, Elliott has thrived under the care of his heroes for more than a decade, as of this writing. He has never walked due to significant physical and mental barriers that most people, myself included, could not begin to understand. When he is having a good day, he is the happiest person on the planet and his cheerfulness is infectious. For Elliott, those days don’t come as often as he deserves.

What if Elliott could fly? He was weightless and soared by sheer determination. I have similar dreams that I can fly, do you? If I concentrate hard enough and if I clench my fists tight enough, my feet will leave the ground. It feels so real that I almost believe I can fly when I awaken.

We all have balloons full of ballast, the constituents of which depend on your particular situation… but we all feel the weight. This sculpture, a twist on a typical boy/balloon theme, is a reminder to fly, even if only in your dreams.
